Wednesday marked the opening of our first conservatory show of the season. Five one act plays by Thornton Wilder appropriately titled "Wilder! Wilder! Wilder!"
Matthew Arbour, a guest artist, directed the five shows which featured my entire class of 10!!
I am so proud of this show and of my classmates! What a beautiful, progressive collaboration of the past. With minimalistic sets and props, the only element to aid the audiences eyes are the beautiful costumes, and a little something called imagination. Throughout this show we do a lot of pretending. (Pretending to get in cars and buses, pretending adults are children, pretending to eat hot dogs, play marbles, pretending to sit on rocks by the water, etc, etc.) But as Thornton Wilder would have wanted, we as actors, are inviting the audience to pretend with us...to see that hot dog, to see that bus...and surprisingly they DO!!!
There's something magical about this show. Despite the fact that these characters are from the past...and in some situations the plot is a little stretched and unrealistic, there is still something about these characters that we can ALL relate to. The human qualities, the flaws everything is shown!
I love this show and am proud to perform it for the next 2 weeks! I hope more will come out and enjoy it for themselves!
